Dr. Elizabeth Akey, PhD, HSPP

Elizabeth Akey, PhD, HSPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children and families. She assesses and treats ADHD, problems of early childhood, anxiety disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Akey uses evidence-based interventions that blend an understanding of individual, family, and social context factors affecting how children function. She includes parents and other caregiving adults as partners in helping their children.

Dr. Akey earned her PhD in clinical psychology from Purdue University. She has worked with clinics in Michigan and Indiana for over 30 years and is also a faculty member at Purdue University, where she trains graduate students in clinical practice.

Dr. Akey now limits her private practice to work mainly with current and former clients.  As her schedule allows, she accepts referrals for psychological assessments.  She is always willing to confer with those seeking services on options for getting help.

Rebecca Peters is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, with over 15 years of experience, she provides mental health care for families and children.Rebecca has earned her Registered Play Therapy Supervisor credential, which requires extensive and advanced training. Rebecca is currently in private practice in West Lafayette.

Rebecca believes in the power of play and the ability for children and families to grow towards health and healing. She is comfortable working with young children and families. Rebecca has an integrative therapy approach as everyone is unique.

Rebecca is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors and the National Association of Play Therapy.

Dr. James Ascough

Dr. Ascough graduated from the Ohio State University, West Virginia University and the University of Georgia. While training, he worked at 8 state hospitals, along with many school systems, public clinics, and university clinics with a variety of clients.

His internship was at the world’s largest state hospital, 12,000 plus patients. He taught and supervised clinical training at the University of Georgia, Purdue University and the University of Washington. From 1980 to 2004, he was the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Wabash Valley Hospital.

Now retired, he on certain days each week does psychological assessments. Most often, these are for Disability or for courts. Clients have ranged from 12 months (intellectual disability) to 92 years of age (cognitive problems in dementia).

Problems might include ADHD or diagnosis and conceptualization for appropriate therapy. He occasionally accepts clients for short-term behavior therapy or biofeedback. All services are private pay only. Dr. Ascough can be reached at 765-463-3016.
